Packed lunch required. Hand in the permission forms (look in the Downloads section). Mike's and Amanda bring the Scouts and personal gear down to Fall Ings Lock. All help to load the boat and then cast off to go through Fall Ings Lock. Driving down to Fall Ings set your satnav to WF1 5DX. This will take you to a pizza shop, 65 Doncaster Road. This is on a junction with Fall Ings Road. Drive down Fall Ings Road and the Lock is a short walk away at the end of the road.. maybe 20 yards. Skip will leave here to take his car to where the boat is being collected and off load his personal gear then take the car to where it is being left for the week being a 5 minute drive. Skip and the crew will then go to collect the narrow boat and bring it around to Fall Ings. Maps are in the downloads section. 1230 Skip arrives at Fall Ings Lock and Scouts get on and set up home - parents help. Stock the kitchen - get everything "ship shape". 1.30 All parents wave goodbye... Short river trip on the Aire & Calder. Stopping for the night just beyond the pipe bridge at Stanley Ferry - moorings before this points are private (page 25). Access to showers/toilets/elsan disposal. If more time we may travel further to stop 200 yards west of Kinds Road Lock. (page 20 1700 Dinner of Steak pie, veg and mashed pots. Swiss roll and custard. Tie up just through Barnsdale Road Bridge for an early lunch. Return to Wakefeild (pages 20-21 and 25). Empty eslsan at Stanley Ferry. Continue to Thornes Flood Lock (bottom page 24 and page 49). JM will provide a food list, if any, to bring down. The location will be as per the tracking system. Amanda wants to meet the boat early so will need to use the tracking system to find us. 0730 WSSS 0800 Breakfast of Frosties, yoghurt and orange juice and tea. 0930 Set sail 1230 Stop for lunch of beens of toast, orange juice and tea. 1315 Set sail 1700 Dinner of pork chop dinner with cheeeeeeeesy potatoe. Sweet of chocolate cake and custard. 2100 Supper of biscuits and hot chocolate. Heading West. Toilet block at Horbury Bridge probably no open. Good shopping next to canal at Ledgard Bridge (Coop and Aldi) (page 50). Stop at COoper Bridge Flood Gate (Page 50). Swiss roll and custard. 1800ish John and Rachel return to the boat. Heading West. Toilets and elsan disposal at Brighouse basin. Good place to fill water tank. Good fish and chips. Possible swimming. Toilets at Shepley Bridge (page 51) but will have to tie up a little way past usually. Crumble and custard. Orange juice and tea. 2100 Hot dogs and hot chocolate. West again to Sowerby Bridge. Toilets and water at Salterhebble Locks (page 52). Can tie up here if necessary on returning but might smell of sewage. Swimming at Sowery Bridge. Can also buy a shower. Also look at Lock 1 of Rotheram Canal - deepest UK lock. Not a good place to stay overnight. Return to Salterhebble and park just inside Salterhebble branch is smell ok or return to Elland Lock area. 4th August Thursday Todays Crew Skipper Isaac 1st Mate Bert/Mike Galley Slaves Ross and Matthew Bog Slaves Leah Lock Slaves All Back to Cooper Bridge for the night (page 50). Excursion onto Huddersfield Broad Canal possible but tricky entrance. Cannot turn before centre of Huddersfield (page 66) - 3.75 miles and 9 locks each way. Good shower block in Huddersfield. Also diesel at nearby supermarket. Filthy canal. FOOD RESUPPLY DAY - Jude is bringing Mike down and returning with Bert. Food purchase list, if any, will be supplied on the Wednesday night. Boat trip with parents for two hours. 1230 Arrive at Fall Ings Lock - Scouts disembark. Meet all parents/helpers at this time. Boat cleaned and prepared for handover - Scouts and Parents.
